PennyAuction server got hit by a DoS-attack to our servers Sunday morning. The attack has currently crippled our servers’ performance and our webpage is not accessible. All auctions were put on hold.
Our system development team together with the service provider worked around the clock to rectify the situation and we were able to get everything back live during one day!
We are sorry for any inconveniences this caused, all auction settings and bids on users accounts were restored according to situation before the breakdown.

PennyAuction server got hit by a DoS-attack to our servers Sunday morning. This is a hostile attempt to interfere with our operational service. The attack has currently crippled our servers’ performance and our webpage is not accessible. We have put all auctions on hold and as soon as we have established stability in our service, previous status of all auctions and bids will be restored and users will be notified beforehand about it.
Our system development team together with the service provider are currently working around the clock to rectify the situation and we expect that by Monday (January 16) afternoon everything will be back to normal again. We will notify you of any changes or news via e-mail or the news section on our page.

New features available in user menu for auction wins

We have developed new features in the user menu. From now on all your auction wins history will be saved and displayed for you. You will be able to see it in the "My wins" section in the user menu on the top right side of our webpage.
Also, we have made all processes that follow an auction win a lot more automatic and user friendly. From now on auctions winners will not need to send address details etc. via e-mail but will be able to confirm everything directly in the "My wins" section on our site.
Furthermore, auction winners will be able to pay all invoices (e.g for delivery) directly once address data is confirmed and an invoice is automatically generated.
Following these changes our winners will be able to receive their won products faster in the future!

We had a GRAND BIDS PROMOTION in July where we gave away thousands of FREE BIDS to all our active users.
The way it worked was very simple. We gave everyone who bought 1000 bids during the month of July an extra 150 bids for FREE. This offer was valid for each 1000 bids that you bought, which means that if you for example bought 2000 bids, we gave you 2x150 bids for free.

PennyAuction server got hit by a DOS-attack late Monday night. Because of this the speed and quality of our webpage that our users temporarily experienced was not up to standards. Our system development team together with the service provider worked hard to rectify the situation and by Tuesday evening everything was back to normal again.
Due to this, our users could have had difficulties refreshing the page between Monday night and Tuesday evening.
Our server is now in more secured network and system is stable. All paused auctions will start on Wednesday and auctions what were planned to be started on Wednesday will start on July 11.
We are sorry for any inconveniences caused by this and will continue to react fast if such an issue might arise in the future.

PennyAuction server encountered an unexpected attack late this Sunday (Feb 21) evening at 10.30pm which made it impossible to keep our website live. We were forced to deactivate our site. After that all manual bidding activity was not possible and only set autobidders continued bidding.
This caused an abnormal situation where noone could enter the site but only autobidders continued to bid and no users could enter the site to change autobidder settings or bid manually. After information about the server attack reached our team, users who had set autobidders lost some of their bids blindly and auctions ended without other users being able to bid on them. We are not able to interfere with any running auctions in our system and therefore had to let them finish under these unnatural circumstances.
Currently we have recovered the situation prior to attack. All our users who received an auction win confirmation mail after 10.30pm on Sunday will be disregardedSince then our team has investigated which users were placing bids after the attack and returned all these bids back to these users.
All auctions that were running at the time of the attack will continue tomorrow according to the schedule below. Please be prepared for the auctions start and check all your autobidders settings. These auctions will all continue on Tuesday (Feb 23). Please check our coming auctions section to see when which auction starts.

Winner saving calculation under "Ended Auctions" currently not working properly

Under "Ended Auctions" section you can find a summary of each auction that has ended - how many bids did the winner make, was there a cashback for that auction, meaning that did the winner get some of his bids back and the overall summary, how many % did the winner save compared to the retail price. There is a technical error in that section calculation currently and our team is working on getting it rectifed asap. All our auctions are working as normal.

PennyAuction received a tip from a customer that his account was used by a stranger. We analysed all log files and it turned out to be true. The user had the same username and password, which we definitely don't recommend.
Some other tips for a safe password: it should not have any common words such as 123; your birth date, the word "password" and any words that can be found in the dictionary.
We suggest a variation of capital and small letters and a min of 1 numeric digit.
To change your password, log in to your account and change it from your profile menu.

You can use Autobidder when you don’t have the time to follow the auction live all the time but still don’t want to waste your chance to win the item. You can adjust all settings as you please – set item price floor and price ceiling within which you want the autobidder to make bids for you. Also, set the maximum number of bids that you are willing to make for the auction. You can change the Autobidder settings as you wish at any time you want.
For a coming auction Autobidder can be activated at any time before the auction starts. For a live ongoing auction Autobidder can be activated latest 3 seconds before countdown reaches zero. If you wish to make a bid within the last 3 seconds of the countdown you need to place it manually (i.e. without Autobidder function).

Fast Auction – this is like a regular auction except that the countdown time is significantly shorter. Several of our users have been recently asking for more intense auctions with much shorter bid interval. Well here it is!
Fixed Price Auction – the end price for the item is fixed and set from the beginning. Regardless of the number of bids made the one who makes the last bid will win the item with the initial set price. That price is available to all users already before the auction starts and will not change during the auction.

Temporary difficulties with access to our webpage were quickly resoved

PennyAuction server service provider's datacenter got hit by a DOS-attack late Friday night. Because of this the speed and quality of our webpage that our users temporarily experienced was not up to standards. Our system development team together with the service provider worked hard to rectify the situation and by early Saturday morning everything was back to normal again.
Due to this, our users could have had difficulties refreshing the page between Fri night and Sat early morning. We are sorry for any inconveniences caused by this and will continue to react fast if such an issue might arise in the future.

All IT enthusiasts and technology freaks from all over Malaysia were in KL between 31 July - 2 August to hunt for best deals and to snoop around and find their favourite gadgets at KL Convention Centre which hosted Malaysia's best ever PC Fair. No more multiple accounts

Recently PennyAuction support team has received complaints from you about hostile visitors on our site. From time to time we notice fraud users that are creating multiple accounts and using the 5 FREE BIDS that they automatically get to interfere in auctions where our real customers are bidding with bought bids.
Since then PennyAuction support team has been monitoring all new users around the clock and deleting all such users immediately. We have also decided to reduce the number of FREE BIDS given to new users significantly, so that they still have a chance to try our system out but also so that it would not make sense for them to register multiple accounts given the time and effort it takes.
We are sorry for the inconveniences that some of our fraud users have caused you. We want our system to be fair to all of our real customers.

All PayPal payments working

Some of our customers have indicated difficulties with PayPal payments. The links to PayPal payment system have not been working correctly. Our support team has investigated this together with PayPal support center and identified an issue with RM48, RM90 and RM450 payments.
These problems have now been rectified and all PayPal payments are now working fine.
PennyAuction is sorry for any inconvenience caused.
An ended auction re-listed

Our support team has discovered that an auction for KINGSTON 8GB USB FLASH DRIVE was won by a fraud user, which is the 1st case of such kind.
This user has registered multiple accounts in our system without entering any personal data and automatically received 5 free bids for each username created. All bids by such fraud users will be considered void and the auction will be re-listed from the same point when it ended so that real users can have a possibility to win it.
Registering multiple accounts with false information is a violation of our rules. Our support team is doing its best on a daily basis to identify and delete such false users.
This auction will be re-listed from the point where it was left off. The auction continues on July 11 at 11:00am local Malaysian time.
Max 100 text messages per month from one number

Our support team has received complaints from customers that their bids via text message have been blocked by our system. We apologise to our customers who have chosen to bid via text message and do not have the opportunity to fully utilise it.
The reason is that our text messages service provider has a monthly limit of max 100 messages from one number. This is implemented in our customers benefit in case their mobile phone is lost or gets stolen. It limits excess misuse and extra expenses. If you do reach the monthly limit, we advise you to either use another mobile number or register free as an online user on our webpage and buy bids electronically via major credit cards, e-banking or your PayPal account.

SMART countdown timer for popular auctions

PennyAuction team has received numerous feedback from customers saying that some auctions tend to last for a long time and that the countdown timer that is set to 2 minutes, is too long. We have chosen to use 2 minutes because we want to give our users time to think before each bidding decisions. For our most popular auctions, however, there are several bids made during a short amount of time. Our auction system is built to analyse such intensive user interest and in these cases will shorten the countdown timer length so that our users have a chance to win the auction faster.
It is not in ours nor our customers' interest to keep the same auction running for a long time. On the contrary, our objective is to have more winners, a higher churn of auctions and more variety of products so that we can best service the needs of our different customer profiles.

PennyAuction team has disvovered that some of our customers are creating usernames that are either vulgar, offensive or otherwise confusing to our other customers. For example usernames "autobid" or "pennybot" are confusing and therefore not allowed. Our team is constantly checking the stream of new users and all such usernames that are unappropriate by nature will be deleted. We advise all customers to create usernames that are neutral in meaning.
